Letter to Congressional Leaders Transmitting a Report on the United States Military Presence in East Asia

Dear Mr. Chairman: (Dear Senator:) (Dear Congressman:)

Pursuant to section 915 of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Years 1990 and 1991 (Public Law 101 - 189), I am hereby transmitting classified and unclassified versions of a report on the military presence of the United States in East Asia, including the Republic of Korea. The reports include a strategic plan relating to the continued United States military presence in East Asia.

Note: Identical letters were sent to Robert C. Byrd and Mark O. Hatfield, chairman and ranking Republican member of the Senate Committee on Appropriations; Jamie L. Whitten and Silvio O. Warner, chairman and ranking Republican member of the Senate Committee on Armed Services; and Les Aspin and William L. Dickinson, chairman and ranking Republican member of the House Committee on Armed Services. The letter was released by the Office of the Press Secretary on April 19.
