1999-0093-F SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE This FOIA request consists of material related to the national space policy during the Reagan and Bush Administration. This includes records on the Space Shuttle, the Space Station, International Space Cooperation, and President Bush's Space Exploration Initiative (which called for a Moon / Mars Mission). A large segment of this request consists of the Quayle Vice Presidential Records of the National Space Council, for which Vice President Quayle was the head, Mark Albrecht the Executive Secretary (succeeded by Brian Dailey in 1992). Researchers should note that the records of the National Space Council are listed as the files of Colleen Boland, the Council's Administrative Specialist. Included in this request are the Bush Presidential Records WHORM Subject File categories for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (FG185) and the National Space Council (FG467). Material consists of published articles and reports, routine internal memoranda, and correspondence from the public, Congress, administration officials. A significant amount of material responsive to this FOIA is contained in the files of the National Security Council (NSC). Although these files are listed, it should be noted that most of these documents are security classified and have been closed under the restrictions of the Presidential Records Act and the Freedom of Information Act. These documents deal with topics such as international space cooperation, space launched vehicles, and national security issues. Please note that a "*" indicates that a collection is entirely processed and open. A more detailed description of the materials is available in the finding aid for the office or category. A "**" indicates files or documents that were incidentally processed as part of this FOIA request. BUSH PRESIDENTIAL RECORDS: WHORM SUBJECT
