President Bush announced his selection of Souter to replace Justice William Brennan on 24 July 1990. Senate Judiciary Committee hearings were held in September 1990, and Souter was sworn-in on 8 October 1990. Material consists of published articles, reports, hearings, and case summaries, as well as routine correspondence and memoranda from the public, private organizations, Congress, and the Bush administration.
