WHORM - Social Affairs (SO)

(5.4 Linear Feet; boxes 1-11)

A primary category containing information pertaining to White House Social Affairs such as dinners, luncheons, evenings at the White House, and teas and receptions. The category also includes invitations to attend events, guest lists, and requests for permission to invite others to White House events. This series does not include detailed information about the planning of White House events, such as state dinners or Rose Garden ceremonies. The series also does not include details about what was served at White House social events or about the decorations at White House affairs. Perhaps the most important part of this series are the thank you letters from guests of the President and Mrs. Bush. These letters reveal the generosity of the first family in opening the White House to family, friends, and staff members for a variety of events and include first-hand accounts of the President and Mrs. Bush interacting socially in formal and informal situations.
