Education Program: "Seeing Texas Through Its Larger Than Life Characters"

Join us as we welcome Bryan Burrough. Born in 1961, Mr. Burrough was raised in Temple, Texas, and graduated from the University of Missouri's School of Journalism in 1983. He has served as a correspondent for The Wall Street Journal and Vanity Fair and has written five books.

Burrough's program will focus on, The Big Rich: The Rise and Fall of the Greatest Texas Oil Fortunes (2009) enjoyed three weeks on New York Times Best-Seller list and garnered rave reviews. Burrough profiles the Big Four oil dynasties of H.L. Hunt, Roy Cullen, Clint Murchison and Sid Richardson.

This program is a partnership of the Bush Library and Museum Education Department with the Mayborn Literary Nonfiction Conference and Big Thought to give students an opportunity to enter the Young Spurs History Writing Contest. Winners of this national non-fiction essay contest will be published in The Dallas Morning News. Winners and teachers will attend the conference free.
