Classic Film: "The Miracle Worker," in conjunction with the "access/ABILITY" exhibit

(1962, 106 minutes, Black and White) Directed by Arthur Penn. A bout with scarlet fever has rendered Helen Keller (Patsy Duke) blind, deaf and mute. When her parents can no longer cope with the feral girl's tantrums, they call in inexperienced by innovative teacher Annie Sullivan (Anne Bancroft). Though Helen perceived sign language as a finger game, Annie's unflagging tutelage ultimately awakens in her charge the concept of words. Bancroft (Best Actress) and Duke (Supporting Actress) won Oscars for their work.

The George Bush Presidential Library and Museum and the George Bush Presidential Library Foundation present the Classic Film Series free of charge and invite anyone in the community to attend. Refreshments are free and available in the lobby in the hour preceding the start of each movie, with beverages provided by PepsiCo. All films are shown in the Annenberg Presidential Conference Center's Hagler Auditorium, unless otherwise noted, and a speaker introduces each film. Parking is free and plentiful.
