Scout Program with Ambassador Sichan Siv

Date(s): November 10, 2012
Time(s): 9:55-10:45 a.m.
Location: George Bush Presidential Library and Museum Orientation Theater

The George Bush Presidential Library and Museum is pleased to invite Boy Scouts, Scout leaders and family members to the Bush Library and Museum on Saturday, November 10 to participate in a question and answer session with Ambassador Sichan Siv. This event will help Scouts partially complete the requirements of their Citizenship in the World Merit Badge. Prior to the event, Scouts are strongly encouraged to read Ambassador's Siv's best-selling autobiography, Golden Bones, published by Harper Collins in July 2008 in honor of America's 232nd Independence Day.

Sichan Siv was nominated by President George W. Bush in 2001 and unanimously confirmed by the Senate as the United States Ambassador to the United Nations, serving until 2006. In June 2005, Ambassador Siv addressed the 60th anniversary assembly of the U.N. in San Francisco, following the precedent set by Presidents Truman in 1945, Eisenhower in 1955 and Johnson in 1965, Secretary of State Schultz in 1985, and President Clinton in 1995.

From 1989 to 1993, during the administration of President George Bush, Ambassador Siv served as Deputy Assistant to the President for Public Liaison, and as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South Asia. In the private sector, he has held positions in social services, educational exchange, financial management, and investment banking. Currently, he provides global strategic advice and gives motivational speeches around the U.S. and the world.

Ambassador Siv has a master of international affairs from Columbia University. He escaped Cambodia's killing fields in 1976 and was resettled as a refugee in Wallingford, Conn. He and his wife, the former Martha Pattillo of Pampa, Texas, spend their time in San Antonio, New York and beyond.
