Classic Film: "Witness for the Prosecution," part of the Mysteries of Life film series
(1957, 116 minutes, Black and White) Directed by Billy Wilder. Based on an Agatha Christie play, this Oscar-nominated mystery directed and co-written by Billy Wilder features an esteemed and ailing lawyer (Charles Laughton). Recovering from a near-fatal heart attack, he is ordered to stay on a "diet" of bland civil suits. Instead, he takes on the defense of an alleged murderer (Tyrone Power, in his final performance) accused of killing a wealthy widow. Things get complicated when the defendant's only alibi, his wife (Marlene Dietrich), decides to testify for the prosecution.
The George Bush Presidential Library and Museum and the George Bush Presidential Library Foundation present the Classic Film Series free of charge and invite anyone in the community to attend. Beverages are provided courtesy of Bryan Coca Cola Bottling Company and popcorn is available at no cost. Refreshments are available in the lobby in the hour preceding the start of each movie. All films are shown in the Annenberg Presidential Conference Center's Hagler Auditorium, unless otherwise noted, and a speaker introduces each film. Parking is free and plentiful.
