Classic Film: "Sahara," part of the Headed to the Movies! film series
(1943, 99 minutes, black & white) Directed by Zoltan Korda. Sergeant Joe Gunn (Humphrey Bogart) leads an abandoned tank unit heading to rejoin the American command after the fall of Tobruk in North Africa in the midst of WWII. Beginning with a crew of just three, the tank picks up British, French, South African and Sudanese soldiers along the way, becoming a microcosm of the Allied forces. The group then works together in a standoff against a much larger German unit, hoping to delay the Germans from rejoining the war.
The George Bush Presidential Library and Museum, George Bush Presidential Library Foundation, and BTU present the Classic Film Series free of charge and invite anyone in the community to attend. Beverages are provided courtesy of Bryan Coca Cola Bottling Company and popcorn is available at no cost. Refreshments are available in the lobby in the hour preceding the start of each movie. All films are shown in the Annenberg Presidential Conference Center's Hagler Auditorium, unless otherwise noted, and a speaker introduces each film. Parking is free and plentiful.
