Classic Film: The Stratton Story

The Stratton Story (1949, 106 minutes, B&W), directed by Sam Wood. Chicago White Sox pitcher Monty Stratton (Jimmy Stewart) became the winningest right-hander in the American League. His major league career ended prematurely when a hunting accident in 1938 forced doctors to amputate his right leg. With a wooden leg and his wife Ethel's (June Allyson) help, Stratton made a successul minor league comeback in 1946, continuing to pitch into the 1950s.

Take me out to the movies! Born to Play Ball is a collection of films dedicated to America's Favorite Pastime--baseball. In conjuction with the musuem exhibit of the same name, we will feature an array of inspiring, humorous-and yes, even musical-tales of baseball lore.

The Bush Library and the Bush Library Foundation present the Classic Film Series free of charge and invite anyone in the community to attend. Beverages are provided courtesy of Bryan Coca Cola Bottling Company and popcorn is available at no cost. Refreshments are available in the lobby in the hour preceding the start of each movie.
