Classic Film: The Pride of the Yankees

Date(s): February 14, 2008
Time(s): 7pm
Location: Auditorium B of George Bush Presidential Conference Center

The Pride of the Yankees (1942, 128 minutes, B&W), directed by Sam Wood. One of the great American stories about one of the great American heroes: baseball phenomenon Lou Gehrig. The film follows the Iron Hourse (Gary Cooper) from childhood to his later glory on the diamond. Gehrig embodied the American ethic of humility and hard work, playing in 2,130 consecutive games until he was forced to retire because of the disease that now bears his name.

Take me out to the movies! Born to Play Ball is a collection of films dedicated to America's Favorite Pastime--baseball. In conjuction with the musuem exhibit of the same name, we will feature an array of inspiring, humorous-and yes, even musical-tales of baseball lore.

The Bush Library and the Bush Library Foundation present the Classic Film Series free of charge and invite anyone in the community to attend. Beverages are provided courtesy of Bryan Coca Cola Bottling Company and popcorn is available at no cost. Refreshments are available in the lobby in the hour preceding the start of each movie. Parking is free and plentiful. For more information, please call Tracy at (979)691-4014.
