Feature Exhibit: Treasures of China
Date(s): August 30, 2003 to December 31, 2003
Treasures of China brings together the old and the new. Contemporary Chinese art will be juxtaposed against ancient counterparts. Thirty exotic paintings will surround Neolithic pottery, Tang sculpture, and jade carvings. The elegance of fluid lines, the exquisite sense of color, and the deft mastery of subject matter seen in Chinese art of the past serve as enduring art forms to major Chinese artists of today. President Bush's extensive collection of Chinese scroll art, both old and new, will make its debut during this exhibit. Many of these sensuous pieces are valued gifts from Chinese friends dating from Mr. Bush's time in China as Chief of the U.S. Liaison Office from 1974 to 1975.
