Classic Film: "Sullivan's Travels," part of the Headed to the Movies! film series

Date(s): May 10, 2012
Time(s): 7 p.m.
Location: Annenberg Presidential Conference Center's Hagler Auditorium

(1941, 90 minutes, black & white) Directed by Preston Sturges. Tired of churning out fluffy comedies, Hollywood director John L. Sullivan (Joel McCrea) decides to write a serious, socially responsible film about human suffering. When his producers point out that he knows nothing of trouble or poverty, he hits the road as a hobo. Joined by a down-on-her-luck aspiring actress (Veronica Lake), the results are hardly the kind of hardship he had in mind. But when the "experiment" seems to be over, Sullivan falls into more trouble than he ever dreamed of...

The George Bush Presidential Library and Museum, George Bush Presidential Library Foundation, and BTU present the Classic Film Series free of charge and invite anyone in the community to attend. Beverages are provided courtesy of Bryan Coca Cola Bottling Company and popcorn is available at no cost. Refreshments are available in the lobby in the hour preceding the start of each movie. All films are shown in the Annenberg Presidential Conference Center's Hagler Auditorium, unless otherwise noted, and a speaker introduces each film. Parking is free and plentiful.
