Heart Health Fair
The Texas A&M Health Science Center and the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum, in partnership with Scott & White Healthcare, St. Joseph Regional Health Center, and The College Station Medical Center will be hosting a free Community Health Fair on Saturday, Feb. 12, from 9:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the Bush Presidential Library and Museum.
In recognition of Heart Health Awareness Month, this fair will provide free information, demonstrations and licensed health professional consultation on a variety of issues related to being heart healthy, including:
- Strategies for cooking and eating out in a healthy way;
- Ways to keep physically active regardless of age;
- General information for being healthy over 50; and,
- Preventing and managing diabetes.
The Community Health Fair will also provide free health screenings, such as blood pressure checks, heart health assessments, BMI assessments, and glucose checks* (if the person has fasted for the previous 8 hours).
Throughout the event a variety of door prizes will be given away and free presentations given by Alan Xenakis, M.D. ("Doc X" from KBTX) on tips for living heart healthy and strategies for advocating for one's own health as well as by Linda Kapusniak, M.S. (author of the Best Bets Restaurant Guide to Low Fat Dining in the Brazos Valley) on eating heart healthy (specific times to be announced).
The Community Health Fair is free of charge. Discounted admission to the Bush Presidential Museum and The Heart Truth® Red Dress collection exhibit will be given for all those attending the Community Health Fair and taking advantage of the free health screenings.
