Classic Film: His Girl Friday

Date(s): October 7, 2010
Time(s): 7 p.m.
Location: Hagler Auditorium

(1940, 92 minutes, B/W) Directed by Howard Hawks

Walter Burns, editor of a major Chicago newspaper, is about to lose his ace reporter and former wife, Hildy Johnson, to insurance salesman Bruce Baldwin, but not without a fight! The crafty editor uses every trick in his fedora to get Hildy to write one last big story, about murderer Earl Williams and the inept Sheriff Hartwell. The comedy snowballs as William's friend, Molly Malloy, the crooked Mayor, and Bruce's mother all get tied up in Walter's web.

This movie continues the film series, "Laughter is the Best Medicine: A Tribute to Women Comedians in Cinema." This series is featured in conjunction with "The Heart Truth Red Dress Collection," on exhibit through Aug. 14, 2011, and focusing on heart disease in women.

The Bush Library and Museum, and the Bush Library Foundation present the Classic Film Series free of charge and invite anyone in the community interested in classic films to attend. Beverages are provided courtesy of Bryan Coca Cola Bottling Company, and popcorn is available at no cost. Refreshments are available in the lobby in the hour preceding the start of each movie. All films are shown in the Annenberg Presidential Conference Center's Hagler Auditorium, unless otherwise noted, and a speaker introduces each film. Parking is free and plentiful.
