Roland Mesnier Books Still Available
On Tuesday, November 27, the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum hosted former White House Pastry Chef and author Roland Mesnier. Chef Mesnier demonstrated how to make one of his magnificent desserts from his new cookbook, "Basic to Beautiful Cakes" for the guests. Mesnier also autographed both "Basic to Beautiful Cakes" and his memoirs, "All the Presidents' Pastries," both of which would be excellent for your holiday gift giving.
Mr. Mesnier is an accomplished chef who started his training at age 14 in the traditional French apprenticeship system. He went on to cook in famous restaurants and hotels all over the world, from London's Savoy Hotel to Bermuda, before starting his 25 year reign as The White House pastry chef. When he was first hired by the White House by Rosalynn Carter, desserts there were not given much priority, but to Mr. Mesnier, they were essential, in 25 years as the pastry chef, he never repeated a State dinner dessert. He was also responsible for the over the top Christmas gingerbread houses (almost villages now) that are featured every year as part of the White House Christmas displays. Mr. Mesnier retired from the White House in the summer of 2004.
Don't worry if you missed this exciting event. We still have a limited number of signed copies of both "All the Presidents' Pastries" and "Basic to Beautiful Cakes". Also available are a small number of un-signed copies of the books. For more information on obtaining one of the amazing books please contact Tracy Johnson at 979-691-4014.
