"Literacy Across Cultures"

The George Bush Presidential Library Foundation, Barbara Bush Literacy Corps, the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum, Texas A&M University Writing Center and International Programs will co-host a series of events on the topic of literacy. “Literacy Across Cultures” kicks-off with The Kay and Britt Rice Exhibit Lecture Series on Thursday from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the GBPLC’s Frymire Auditorium with a panel discussion featuring Jacqueline Adams, media correspondent, speaking on “Race, Culture & Achievement;” Audrey Shabbas, educator for The Middle East Policy Council on “Literacy and Libraries: Islam’s Legacy;” and Dr. Victor Arizpe, TAMU Professor of Spanish and Head of Hispanic Studies, on “Latino Literacy Education.” After the panel discussion the Bush Library Troubadours will entertain with “Reading Around the World.” A reception in the Museum Rotunda follows featuring the opening of the “Women of Our Time” Exhibit with Twentieth-Century Photographs from the National Portrait Gallery and the unveiling of the original 19th Amendment from The National Archives.
