Bush Library Hosts Lions Club 4th Of July Celebration
For Release: June 21, 2005College Station, TX - For the sixth year, the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum and Texas A&M University will host the Lions Club International’s annual Fourth of July Celebration, “I Love America.” This is the 45th year for this community event. The Museum will open at 9:30 a.m. and extend its hours until 8:00 p.m. Admission to the museum on the Fourth of July is free for everyone. Costumed characters such as George and Martha Washington, Abe Lincoln, Benjamin Franklin, Lady Liberty and Uncle Sam along with many others will be mingling with the crowd to pose for photographs and answer questions about their distinguished careers. July 4th will be the last opportunity for visitors to experience Discovering the World with Peter Sís. The museum’s newest exhibit, Texas: Lone Star Pride, which opened July 2nd, will be on exhibit in the Fidelity Gallery. The George Bush Presidential Library Foundation provides museum funding for the Fourth of July celebration.
Events will kick off with an ice sculpting demonstration at 3:00 p.m. Next, the Bush Museum Issues Forum hosts E. Joseph Deering, photographer featured in the Texas: Lone Star Pride exhibit. This free presentation begins at 4:00 p.m. at the Museum Orientation Theater. The concession stands will open at 5:00 p.m. The live entertainment and games for the children will all begin at 5:30 p.m. Entertainment includes the Texas Unlimited Band, Neil and The Real Deal, Eugene Eugene, barbershop quartet, Voices Only and Elvis impersonator, Jason Adams. The master of ceremonies will be KO of 104.7 FM. The evening will culminate with a spectacular fireworks display and concert by the Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestra. People are encouraged to come early and bring their lawn chairs, picnic baskets and blankets.
Spectators should enter Research Park on Discovery or Research Drive off Hwy 60 (University Dr.), or use Olsen Drive to access John Kimbrough. Ample free parking will be available in Research Park. Barbara Bush Drive and the Bush Library parking lots will be closed to all traffic except those needing handicapped parking. Those needing handicapped parking should access the museum parking lot through the Research Drive entrance. George Bush Drive will be closed to all traffic during the fireworks display.
