Bush Library Hosts Lions 4th Of July Celebration
For Release: June 16, 2004College Station, TX - For the fifth year, the George Bush Presidential Library Center and Texas A&M University will host the College Station Noon Lions Club’s annual Fourth of July Celebration, “I Love America.” This is the 44th year for this community event. The Museum will open at noon and extend their hours until 8:00 p.m. Admission to the museum on the Fourth of July is free for everyone . Costumed characters such as George and Martha Washington, Abe Lincoln, Benjamin Franklin, Lady Liberty and Uncle Sam along with many others will be mingling with the crowd to pose for photographs and answer questions about their distinguished careers. Barbara Bush: An Extraordinary Journey and the Student Art and Essay Contest, the muse um’s newest exhibits, are on exhibit concurrently. The Altria Group, Inc. provides museum funding for the Fourth of July celebration.
The concession stands will open at 5:00 p.m. The live entertainment and games for the children will all begin at 5:30 p.m . There will be a live entertainment stage featuring live bands and vocalists, including Texas High Life, a Texas country band. At 8:35 there will be a special performance by Elvis impersonator, Jason Adams. This year, thanks to the generous support of Britt and Kay Rice, Britt Rice Electric and First American Bank, the Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Maestro Marcelo Bussiki will perform a concert of patriotic music. The Symphony concert will begin at 9:00 p.m. Joining the symphony will be the Brazos Valley Chorale, performing the Battle Hymn of the Republic and God Bless America. Dr. William Perry, Executive Vice President and Provost will narrate Aaron Copland’s Lincoln Portrait. The evening will culminate with a spectacular fireworks display and the symphony performing the 1812 Overture. People are encouraged to come early and bring their lawn chairs, blankets and picnic baskets. No glass containers please.
Spectators should enter Research Park on Discovery or Research Drive off Hwy 60 ( University Dr.), or use Olsen Drive to access John Kimbrough. Ample free parking will be available in Research Park. Barbara Bush Drive and the Bush Library parking lots will be closed to all traffic except those needing handicapped parking. George Bush Drive will be closed to all traffic during the fireworks display.
The Museum at the George Bush Presidential Library hours are Monday – Saturday, 9:30 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. and Sundays from 12:00 until 5:00 p.m. Museum admission is $7.00 for adults, $5.00 for senior citizens 62+ and groups of 20 or more with reservations. Children 6 and older are $2.00 TAMU and Blinn college students as well as children under 6 are free.
