Red Dress Collection

College Station, TX -

The George Bush Presidential Library and Museum announces the opening of "The Heart Truth® Red Dress Collection and First Ladies Red Dress Collection" Oct. 1 in the museum’s Ansary Gallery, on exhibit through Aug. 14, 2011.

Through a partnership with the Texas A&M Health Science Center and KBTX Media, the exhibit will focus on heart and health awareness and education through interactive displays, health screenings, medical features on KBTX and kbtx.com, and issues forums and panel discussions by doctors and leading health care professionals.

Below is a list of events occurring in conjunction with the exhibit opening:

Free Community Health Fair
Sept. 25, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Bush Library and Museum
Free information, demonstrations and lectures about:

  • child passenger safety;
  • developmental stages of children;
  • physical activity at home and at school;
  • bullying and peer directed aggression;
  • mental health and adolescents;
  • learning disabilities;
  • disciplining strategies;
  • preparing the entire family for the flu season.

 

Issues Forum: "Navigating the Health Care System"
Nancy W. Dickey, M.D., president of the Texas A&M Health Science Center and vice chancellor for health affairs for The Texas A&M University System
Sept. 30, 7 p.m., Bush Library and Museum

Dr. Dickey will speak and answer questions about navigating through the maze of the health care system, followed by a free reception in the museum's rotunda and sneak peek of "The Heart Truth® Red Dress Collection and First Ladies Red Dress Collection." The issues forum is sponsored by Healthy Woman at College Station Medical Center and will be streamed live on kbtx.com.

*** There will be a special media preview of the exhibit Sept. 30, 5:30-7 p.m. at the Bush Library and Museum. Media will have an opportunity to interview several experts, including Warren Finch, director, George Bush Presidential Library and Museum; Nancy W. Dickey, M.D., president of the Texas A&M Health Science Center and vice chancellor for health affairs for The Texas A&M University System; Mike Wright, general manager, KBTX Media; Dr. Alan Xenakis, KBTX medical contributor and Texas A&M Health Science Center faculty; Susie Cox, curator, George Bush Presidential Library and Museum; Jason Hancock, exhibit specialist, George Bush Presidential Library and Museum; and Shelby Pulverenti, physician liaison, Healthy Woman at College Station Medical Center. There will be a tour of the exhibit, and media will also have an opportunity to film and take photographs inside the gallery. Genealogy Workshop: "Discover Who You Really Are!"
Oct. 2, 9 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., Bush Library and Museum

This free program is designed for all levels of genealogical interest, from beginners to experienced researchers. The workshop will feature prominent speakers who will explain how best to explore local research facilities in Houston and Fort Worth. The Texas A&M Health Science Center will also have a special panel on finding and creating your family's health history.

The Heart Truth® is a national awareness campaign for women about heart disease sponsored by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, part of the National Institutes of Health, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
