Bush Library Hosts Local Area Lions Club International 4th Of July Celebration And Fireworks Display
For Release: June 21, 2006College Station, TX - For the seventh year, the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum and Texas A&M University will host the Lions Club International’s annual 4th of July Celebration, “I Love America.” This is the 46th year for this community event. The Museum will open at 9:30 a.m. and extend its hours until 8:30 p.m. Admission to the museum on the 4th of July is free for everyone. Standard security procedures will be enforced for all persons entering the museum. Costumed characters such as George and Martha Washington, Abe Lincoln, Benjamin Franklin, Lady Liberty and Uncle Sam along with many others will be mingling with the crowd to pose for photographs and answer questions about their distinguished careers. July 4th is the perfect opportunity for visitors to experience the Trains: Tracks of the Iron Horse exhibit currently on display in both of the museum’s changing exhibit galleries.
The concession stands will open at 5:00 p.m. The live entertainment and games for the children will all begin at 5:30 p.m. Entertainment includes a barbershop quartet, Voices Only, Elvis impersonator, Jason Adams and the Texas Unlimited Band “TUB”. The master of ceremonies will be KO of Mix 104.7 FM. The evening will culminate with a spectacular fireworks display and concert by the Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestra. People are encouraged to come early and bring their lawn chairs, picnic baskets and blankets. Funding for the festivities is provided by: The College Station Noon Lions Club, the cities of College Station and Bryan, Texas A&M University, the George Bush Presidential Library Foundation, Bryan Coca-Cola Bottling Co., and Slovacek Sausage Co.
Spectators should enter Research Park on Discovery or Research Drive off Hwy 60 (University Dr.), or use Olsen Drive to access John Kimbrough. Ample free parking will be available in Research Park. Barbara Bush Drive and the Bush Library parking lots will be closed to all traffic except those needing handicapped parking. Those needing handicapped parking should access the museum parking lot through the Research Drive entrance. George Bush Drive will be closed to all traffic during the fireworks display.
