Fire School Tours Offered Through Bush Museum

For Release: March 6, 2006
College Station, TX - The George Bush Presidential Library and Museum is pleased to partner with the Texas Engineering Extension Service to offer tours of the Brayton Fire School in College Station on Saturday March 18. This is a unique opportunity to get a behind the scenes look at the operations of the fire school. Tours will depart from the Bush Library at 10:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. and last 60-90 minutes. The cost is $5.00 per person payable at the admission counter at the museum. Small children who will sit on a parent's lap are free. Children must be closely supervised by an adult at all times.

After a five minute bus trip, visitors will enter a classroom and view a 15-minute PowerPoint presentation on the school’s history, purpose, and future plans. Visitors will then reboard the bus and drive by the tank car loading rack and receive a briefing on how the equipment is used to train for chemical emergencies. Visitors will then proceed to the simulated passenger train derailment and if time and weather conditions allow, will walk through a coach and buffet train car. Photo opportunities will be available throughout the visit.

Although advanced reservations are not required, a reservation will guarantee you a place. Seating is very limited. Please contact Tracy Johnson of the Bush Library staff at 979-691-4014 or e-mail Tracy.Johnson@nara.gov for further information or to make your reservation.
