Ima Hogg, or Miss Ima, as she was known, was the state’s pre-eminent cultural leader. She was a founder and guiding spirit of the Houston Symphony Orchestra and established the Hogg Foundation for Mental Health at the University of Texas at Austin. She also gave Bayou Bend, her home in Houston’s River Oaks district, to the Museum of Fine Arts Houston. With her brothers, she arranged for the city to purchase what today is the city’s Memorial Park.
