Reared in Houston, Tommy Tune is a dancer, choreographer and director. Innovative and imaginative, Tune has been favorably compared with such director-choreographers as Jerome Robbins and Michael Bennett. He drew on his Texas background to spice up The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, which started in New York off-Broadway but proved so popular that it moved to Broadway and ran for three years. Tune’s production of Nine in 1982 won five Tony awards. Of it one critic wrote: “Tommy Tune could create rainbows in the desert.”
