Born in Stephenville, Ben Hogan was reared in Fort Worth, where he learned about golf while working at a country club. A perfectionist, Hogan became professional golf’s leading money-maker in 1940, 1941, 1942, and again in 1946 and 1948. In 1949 he was nearly killed in an automobile accident near Van Horn. His amazing comeback was dramatized in a movie, Follow the Sun. Hogan won nine major championships – four U.S. Opens, two Masters, two PGA championships and one British Open – between 1946 and 1953. In 1960 he started another career: the manufacture of golf equipment.
