Many racing authorities consider native Houstonian A.J. Foyt the greatest race-car driver in history. The first man to win the Indianapolis 500 four times, he has won more Indy-car races than any other driver, a total of 67. In 1989 Foyt was the inaugural inductee into the Motorsports Hall of Fame. He is the only man to have won the Indy 500, the Daytona 500 and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Of Foyt, fellow driver Bobby Rehal said: “What Babe Ruth was to baseball, Foyt is to racing.”
