Beginning as a folklorist and disciple of J. Frank Dobie, John Henry Faulk of Austin became a humorist, moralist and martyr to the First Amendment. In 1962 he won a legal battle against a right-wing group that had branded him a communist in the 1950s. In his latter days Faulk was a regular on the Hee Haw TV show and made his home in Madisonville.
