The grandson of Mexican immigrants, this native Texan has thus far enjoyed an illustrious career accomplished through hard work and perseverance. He is most publicly recognized in conjunction with George W. Bush, rising in rank from the Texas Governor’s General Counsel to Texas Secretary of State, then Texas Supreme Court Judge, on to White House Counsel, and now the first Hispanic to serve as Attorney General of the United States. However, Gonzales has been honored on numerous occasions for his own personal commitments within the Texas community, such as a President’s Award from the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the League of United Latin American Citizens, the Presidential Citation from the State Bar of Texas for his dedication to ensuring the basic legal needs of the indigent, a Commitment to Leadership Award from the United Way, and the Hispanic Salute Award for his work in the field of education.
