Launched on May 14, 1973 into a 272 mile high circular orbit, the Skylab space station was to demonstrate that man can live and work in the weightlessness of space for extended periods of time. Using the Apollo Command Module for transportation to and from earth, three teams of three astronauts each spent six weeks at a time conducting scientific experiments in space between May 25, 1973 and February 4, 1974.
