The stylization of this cloisonné horse is typical of the Tang Dynasty (618-908). Both Han (206BC- 220AD) and Tang emperors and generals are noted for their love of good horses, particularly those from central Asia. One emperor (Tang Tai-Zung) had six stone carvings of horses as part of his burial items.
