The ornaments that grace this Christmas tree also decorated the 1989 Christmas tree in the Blue Room in the White House. The ornaments are well-known storybook characters from literature. These soft sculptures were made by the White House florists.

The needlepoint buildings which surround the tree were from the 1991 White House Christmas tree. Two hundred and fourteen members of the "Saintly Stitchers," a needlepoint club in Houston, Texas, and 271 White House staff and volunteers stitched for two years on these one-of-a-kind ornaments.

The 18-foot Fraser Fir is from West Jefferson, North Carolina. It is a gift of Mr. Ron Hudler in coordination with Mr. and Mrs. Jack Scott of Tomball, Texas.
