Model Railroading Seminars

Railroad Conference

The George Bush Library and Museum is pleased to partner with the Center for Railroad Photography & Art to co-sponsor a day long symposium on the history of the diesel locomotive. The day long program will feature speakers and slide presentations at the George Bush Library. The evening program will include a dinner and keynote address at the historic LaSalle Hotel in downtown Bryan Texas (approximately 6 miles from the Bush Library). Planning is almost complete. Tour of the Staged Railroad Wreck at the Brayton Fire School

The George Bush Presidential Library and Museum is pleased to partner with the Texas Engineering Extension Service to offer a tour of the Brayton Fire School. Tours will depart from the Bush Library at 10:30 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. and last 60-90 minutes. The cost is $5.00 per person payable at the admission counter. Small children who will sit on a parent's lap are free. Children must be closely supervised by an adult at all times.

After a five minute bus trip, visitors will enter a classroom and view a 15-minute PowerPoint presentation on the school's history, purpose, and future plans. Visitors will then reboard the bus and drive by the tank car loading rack and receive a briefing on how the equipment is used to train for chemical emergencies. The bus will continue through the complex to the freight train derailment where visitors will witness a live demonstration of how emergency personnel respond to railroad wrecks. Visitors will then proceed to the simulated passenger train derailment and If time and weather conditions allow, will walk through two Amtrak passenger cars. Photo opportunities will be available throughout the visit.

National Railway Historical Society Day at the George Bush Library

The George Bush Presidential Library and Museum is pleased to welcome members of the National Railway Historical Society for a joint conference and slide presentations. Motor coaches will depart from Dallas-Ft. Worth and Houston the morning of the 18th. Lunch and admission to the museum are included in the price of the motor coach. In addition to touring the exhibit, the NRHS and Bush Library are pleased to welcome two speakers who will present slide shows on Texas railroads. Model Railroading Seminars

The George Bush Library and Museum is pleased to partner with the Galveston County Modular Railroad Club to offer a free day-long seminar on model railroading. Club members will construct a model railroad while visitors watch and ask questions. Each session will cover a different facet of model railroading including planning, constructing benchwork, track laying, wiring, constructing scenery, buildings, rolling stock, weathering, and digital command control (DCC).
