Flexing the Nation's Muscle
August 22, 1998 to October 25, 1998
"Flexing the Nation's Muscle, Presidents, Physical Fitness, and Sports in the American Century" is a traveling exhibit assembled by the Harry S. Truman Presidential Library in association with the President's Council on Physical Fitness and the National Archives. Focusing on the 20th Century, Presidents from Theodore Roosevelt through Bill Clinton, this exhibition uses text, photographs and more than 110 original artifacts to illustrate how the Presidency has become -- to use Roosevelt's phrase -- "a bully pulpit" from which to extoll a nation to remain strong and healthy through a regular program of physical activity.
