The Winnick Family Foundation Education Program of the George Bush Presidential Library and Museum strives to inform and enrich learning. The Museum offers many different opportunities to learn in a fun and exciting way by catering to students of all ages.
The George Bush Presidential Library and Museum was recently named a finalist for an excellence in distance learning award from the Texas Distance Learning Association. The nomination said, "The Bush Library is unique among Presidential Libraries for providing K-12 distance learning programs that specifically foster the love of reading, civic literacy and understanding cultural diversity. Over the past four years, the Bush Library has partnered with the Texas Education Service Centers to offer a one-hour program where Former First Lady Barbara Bush reads a book and then answers questions from elementary students. Every student watching the program then received a copy of the book. Over 78,000 students participating in the Reading Discovery programs have received their own copy of the book read by Mrs. Bush. This program exists today because of the vision and commitment of Shirley Hammond, Education Director, and her department at the Bush Library."
